We at COSMoS want to take time to acknowledge that for thousands of years, the Cherokee flourished in ᏙᎩᏯᏍᏗ (To Ki Ya Sdi), which translates to “the place where they race,” now known as Asheville. Today, Asheville sits on the ancestral land of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. The city’s main water source originates in Black Mountain, located in eastern Buncombe County. From there, pure mountain springs and streams feed into lakes, forming the North Fork and Bee Tree Reservoirs.

We understand your time is valuable, and so is ours. Out of respect for our stylists and clients, we require at least 24 hour notice should you need to cancel/reschedule an appointment. Failing to give 24 hour notice will require a 100% payment of your service(s). Any no-shows will require a payment of 100% of their service amount.   

Please note that if you are over 15 minutes late for your appointment we may have to reschedule your service if it cannot be completed in the remaining time frame. All attempts to reschedule in a timely manner will be made. If we do not hear from you 15 or more minutes into your scheduled appointment time it is considered a “No-Show” and a required payment of 100% of the service scheduled.

We accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express, and cash. We do not accept personal checks.

The safety of our staff and our clients is our top priority. As such, the salon reserves the right to refuse service to anyone if we feel that they pose a health or safety risk. This includes but is not limited to lice, skin infections, open wounds, contagious illness (such as a new, continuous cough or a fever), or rude/obnoxious behavior.

Meet Melanie Owen

Melanie Owen, master stylist, has been behind the chair for over 20 years. Throughout the past 6 years living here in Asheville, she has dedicated her energy to curating a strong & loyal clientele. Her work ethic & integrity have manifested the opening of her very own salon in the lovely historic Grove Arcade! Melanie currently shares her time between Asheville, NC and Jacksonville, FL.

“Color is my passion. Specializing in customizing rich, lustrous hues that shine in any environment. I have found my niche in natural, dimensional, intentional color. Your hair is my canvas! I work diligently to enhance its workability and texture, and I specialize in color correcting, personalized shaping, and custom blonding. From glam to boho to everyday woman hair, I simply love creating and making your vision for your hair become a reality.“

Melanie studied in Scranton, PA at Empire Beauty Academy. She has practiced in AZ, FL and Asheville, NC. Melanie attends the Premiere Beauty Show almost every summer to hone her skills & remain at the top of her peers. With her excellent communication skills, time management & work ethic, you will surely be pleased upon leaving her chair.

Meet Alex Elkins, manager at COSMoS Salon! Born and raised somewhere between Nebo and Morganton, Alex has always called Western NC home. Growing up in his aunt’s salon, Alex quickly realized the important role a stylist plays in their community. After he studied and graduated from Paul Mitchell the School, he entered the hair industry over eight years ago. Alex loves making connections with each of his clients; providing services for lived-in blonding and color, fresh fades and classic cuts. Let’s not forget his world famous scalp massage. When he is not in the salon, you can usually find Alex spending time with family and friends, outside on the trails or getting his hands dirty in the garden, and catching a new film at the theater.

Alycia May is a beach raised hair stylist whose  mission is to beautify the world inside and out, one client at a time. She believes in the lifestyle cut, the bounce and the tousle, a wave and a bend and who could forget the perfect hair flip? Alycia’s everyday goal is to be a “daymaker”. As a “Daymaker” not only will she deliver results, but she will get you there in a happy healthy way. Through her 13 year hair journey she discovered that it is all about the choices we make. She chose the happy, healthy way for you as a client and us as a whole; always being mindful of the environment.
